FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade

Brut Racing / NHRA PhotoEL PASO, Texas (October 23, 2006) – Brut Racing Funny Car Driver Ron Capps has been named the Grand Marshal for the 70th Annual FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade, announced John H. Folmer, Sun Bowl Association president.

The FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade is slated for Thursday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. on Montana Avenue between Ochoa and Copia Streets. Last year, over 350,000 people attended the parade.

Capps becomes the 11th sports figure to serve as Grand Marshal of the FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade, joining a group that includes sports icons Don Haskins, Bobby Dobbs, Lee Trevino, Mickey Mantle and Don Maynard.

“We are really excited to have one of the premier Funny Car drivers in the United States to serve as our 2006 Grand Marshal,” said Folmer. “Ron Capps is one of the best at what he does and it will be an honor to have both him and his Brut Racing Funny Car in the parade this year.”

Capps has won five races this season and 27 for his career and is currently second in the NHRA POWERade Series standings. He is on pace to finish in the top 10 of the points standings for the ninth time in the last 10 years. Capps is currently 46 points out of first place with two races left on the schedule.

“The addition of Ron Capps as the grand marshal is something special,” said Joe Daubach, special events director at the Sun Bowl Association. “El Pasoans will have the opportunity to see one of the nation’s premier NHRA drivers and have the opportunity to see both Ron Capps and his Brut Racing Dodge Charger in person.”

Capps and the Brut Racing Dodge Charger will be at the FirstLight Federal Credit Union branch at 9993 Kenworthy in El Paso from 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Capps will be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans the day before the FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade.

The 70th FirstLight Federal Credit Union Sun Bowl Parade is Thursday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. The parade runs along Montana Avenue beginning at Ochoa Street and ending at Copia Street. Review Stand tickets for the parade can be purchased at any FirstLight Federal Credit Union branch office, Good Time store location or at the Sun Bowl Association office. This year’s parade theme is “America’s Decades.”
