Elizabeth Marquez, the daughter of Leo and Rebecca Marquez, is a senior microbiology major at the University of Texas at El Paso. A graduate of the Maxine L. Silva Health Magnet school, Marquez was a regional champion as part of the Health Occupant Students of America, was a member of the National Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society. An academic all-district selection in both volleyball and swimming, she was tabbed a volleyball all-star and was a swimming regional qualifier. She spent a year in Denmark as part of the Rotary Youth Ambassador Exchange Student program. Marquez serves as treasurer for The American Society of Microbiology and as secretary for the Catholic Campus Ministry. In addition, she is also a member of the Student Leadership Institute, the Medical Profession Organization and the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. The Maxine L. Silva Magnet graduate volunteers her time to the North American Food Drive, Adopt-a-Highway, the Special Olympics, UTEP’s Project Move, St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Making Strides and Easter at Lee Moor.
