John Folmer Most Valuable Special Teams Player Trophy

In 1994, a third individual award was established to recognize the outstanding member of special teams.  It is named for John Folmer, who has served on the Sun Bowl Football Committee for 37 consecutive years and has been chairman of the committee since 1981. Folmer was selected as a 2001 Legend of the Sun Bowl.
