Arkansas Sweeps Golf Contest at College All-America Golf Classic

It was a clean Arkansas sweep as Sebastian Cappelen and Austin Cook teamed up to take the Titleist Long Drive competition and PING Putting Contest, respectively, on Sunday to open the festivities at the 37th Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic at the El Paso Country Club.

Cappelen’s best of three went 342 yards to take Wake Forest’s Evan Beck’s early lead of 322 yards as the sixth All-American hitting from the first tee box. UCLA’s Pontus Widegren finished second with a drive of 338 yards following Alabama’s Cory Whitsett 336-yard drive late in the competition.

 

In the PING Putting Contest Razorback junior Austin Cook carded a 27 in the nine-hole event to edge out teammate Cappelen’s score of 28. Four competitors tied for third carding 31 – Missouri’s Jace Long, Alabaman’s Hunter Hamrick, Texas A&M’s Cameron Peck and Texas’ Jordan Spieth.

The 37th Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic begins play Monday at 8:00 a.m. (MT) at the El Paso Country Club.
