EL PASO, Texas – The Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade is set for this Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. (MT) on Montana Ave. in El Paso, Texas, with many ways to follow along and catch the sights and sounds of this wonderful El Paso tradition.

The parade will air live on KTSM News Channel 9 in El Paso and the surrounding areas. It will also be broadcast worldwide online at https://www.ktsm.com.

“We are glad to provide coverage of this awesome parade once again and we are excited to showcase the great floats and our awesome sponsor,” said Executive Director Bernie Olivas.

There will be Instagram LIVE segments at 10 a.m. (MT) and approximately 11:15 a.m. (MT). Followers can view portions of the parade on Instagram stories (@tonythetigersunbowl) and on Snapchat (TheRealSBA_1935).

A photo album will be added to Facebook at a later date, as well as a highlight video on YouTube (Sun Bowl Association).

This year marks the 86th edition of the annual parade, which is held on Montana Ave. from Ochoa to Copia and will be televised on KTSM News Channel 9 once again.

The Sun Bowl parade started its humble beginnings on New Year’s Day in 1936 and has stood the test of time as an annual tradition here in El Paso. The Sun Bowl Association made the switch to a Thanksgiving Day celebration in 1978 and has been the tradition since.

ABOUT THE SUN BOWL ASSOCIATION
The Sun Bowl Association is a volunteer based nonprofit 501©(3) organization. The Sun Bowl Association, with the help of over 700 volunteers, promotes and serves the El Paso community and features a year-round schedule of events, culminating with the Annual Tony the Tiger® Sun Bowl football game.

The Sun Bowl Association was founded in 1934 with a threefold purpose: 1) to present a football attraction of national importance, 2) to promote El Paso and the Southwest and 3) to generate tourist income for the area. On Oct. 18, 1934, at a meeting of the El Paso Kiwanis Club, Dr. Brice Schuller suggested that the club sponsor a football game on New Year’s Day, matching an El Paso High School All-Star Team against a worthy opponent. The motion was passed unanimously. It was decided to ask for public suggestions as to the name of this annual game, and the name “Sun Bowl” was submitted by Dr. C.M. Hendricks, who became the first president of the Sun Bowl Association.
