Horschel, Nagy Take Honors Sunday At The
Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic

aagolf_classicEL PASO, Texas (November 18, 2007) - Last year, Florida's Billy Horschel hovered around 300 yards for his three drives. What a difference a year makes, as Horschel drove the ball 329 yards on his second cut to take top honors at the Titleist Long Drive Contest and Charlotte's Corey Nagy won in a playoff to capture the PING Putting Contest title at the 2007 Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic held at El Paso Country Club on Sunday.

Horschel, a 5-11 junior from Grant, Fla., launched his second drive 329 yards with no wind in sight. Louisville's Derek Fathauer cam in second with a 320-yard drive, edging out Clemson's Kyle Stanley and Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm, who both finished with a 319-yard drives.

In the PING Putting Contest, Nagy edged out four others in a five-man playoff that featured UNLV's Jarred Texter, Vanderbilt's Jon Curran, Florida State's Matt Savage, and East Tennessee State's Gareth Shaw. All five finished with a round of 23 on the nine-hole putting course that featured a western motif of hay bails, saddles, boots and horseshoes as obstacles for the competitors. Nagy birdied the playoff hole to edge out the field.

The 33rd Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic begins play Monday at 8:00 a.m. (MT) at the El Paso Country Club.

The tournament, hosted by the Sun Bowl Association, is played at the Par-71, 6,817-yard El Paso Country Club.

Throughout the years, many Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic competitors have gone on to pursue successful careers in the Professional Golfers' Association of America and on the PGA Tour. Some of the past champions include Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999), Davis Love III (1984), Chris Nallen (2003), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995).

Each university is awarded a $1,000 scholarship if a golfer from that school competes in the tournament.
