ORU continues undefeated run to first place finish
EL PASO, Texas (August 30, 2008) - The Oral Roberts volleyball team defeated the University of Texas at El Paso 25-22, 25-20 and 25-11 on Saturday evening at the Sun Bowl Invitational Championship. ORU dominated without dropping a single game throughout the tournament.
Golden Eagle Jack Oliveira led the team with nine kills, six digs, and four block assists and earned Tournament MVP honors. Adding eight kills and two block assists, JoJo Souza also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Carol Garbato was named the Most Valuable Libero after notching nine digs in the win over UTEP.
UTEP attempted to rally back with efforts led by Catherine Chavez (11 kills, 6 digs), Amy Sanders (8 kills, 1 dig) and Daidre Mendenhall (7 kill, 2 digs). For the second straight year, Chavez earned All-Tournament Team honors while Mendenhall collects her first nomination.
Also named to the All-Tournament Team were Jessica Wolfe (Butler), Kelsey Labrum (Butler) and Renata Pandolfo (NJIT).
