YSLETA DEL SUR PUEBLO PROVIDES HALFTIME PERFORMER, GRAMMY NOMINATED, TONIC

EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association, Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and Speaking Rock Entertainment Center have announced that Tonic is scheduled to perform during halftime of the 88th Annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on Friday, Dec. 31 in El Paso, Texas.

“The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and Speaking Rock Entertainment Center are very proud to continue our partnership with the Sun Bowl and present TONIC for the halftime entertainment concert,” said Karl Maahs, General Manager of Speaking Rock Entertainment Center.

Tonic is an American rock band, formed in 1993 by Emerson Hart and Jeff Russo. Later members have included Dan Lavery, Kevin Shepard, and Dan Rothchild. Tonic released its debut album Lemon Parade in 1996 and the single “If You Could Only See” reached No. 11 on the Billboard Airplay Hot 100 in 1997, and Lemon Parade itself reached platinum status.

“Having Yselta del Sur Pueblo and Speaking Rock Entertainment Center as a sponsor allows us to bring in featured artists for halftime entertainment,” said Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “We know the fans enjoying seeing different performers at the Sun Bowl and we believe a Grammy Nominated performer such as Tonic can bring some great entertainment. We thank Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, Speaking Rock Entertainment Center and Mr. Karl Maahs for the continued partnership.”

Tonic released its third album Head on Straight in 2002 and received two Grammy nominations from Head on Straight, including one for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Take Me As I Am”, and one for Best Rock Album.

After embarking on a tour and releasing a greatest-hits compilation in 2008, Tonic released its fourth studio album, 2010’s Tonic. After the release of that album, Tonic has continued to tour and remain active, utilizing direct funding from fans to make an all-acoustic version of Lemon Parade titled Lemon Parade Revisited in 2016, and debuting their first non-album single with 2021’s “To Be Loved”.

The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is featuring an entertainer for the second time as a partner with Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and Speaking Rock Entertainment Center. In 2019, P.O.D. performed in front of more than 40,000 fans.
